Thinking Red

As I sat at the Tofitian this morning sipping on my coffee and pondering my next blog shot I received a text from Rhonda at Studio One. She had this idea of 1920's inspired hair and make-up which is exactly the kind of thing I am looking for. Creative and fun. When I walked in the salon I was immediately taken back by Marie's red shirt and lips. Red is my favourite colour, so I thought I'd make that the focus. Thank-you Rhonda for bringing me this beautiful photo op... Exquisite work.

Good Form!

Good Form!

This will not be my official blog post for today but I feel I owe this to Natalie to properly reflect her astonishing form. What you can't see in this image is the 75 ft. shear drop off no more than 3 feet behind her. Natalie, you are certainly a brave soul and a teacher that many look up to. I look forward to bringing more art, beauty and creativity to your practice as time moves on.

Happy Birthday Vargas!

Happy Birthday Vargas!

It's safe to say that the name Vargas Dan is known by most who have spent any real time here on the coast. The name itself comes from 20+ years living in a beach hut on the back side of Vargas Island. Since, he has moved but has still not abandoned the remote lifestyle. Now residing in a small but funky little floathouse way up the inlet Dan will always be Vargas. He is best known for is carved sculptures but what he really lives for is surfing. He is a good friend and a healthy reminder to keep it simple. Happy Birthday Dan.

A True Master

A True Master

Today was one of those stormy west coast days we have had to embrace lately. This lead me to the warmth and always welcoming faces of the carving shed on North Chesterman Beach. I have had the pleasure of knowing Lyne for a handful of years now and she has always been gracious enough to let me photograph her at work. She is a true master carver; learning from and working with the late Henry Nola and master carver Joe Martin. Her creativity, dedication and insane patience is something one should aspire to.

A Pure Soul

A Pure Soul

Today was a planned photo shoot with the Arbutus Health Team. Like many days here on the west coast it was grey, raining and cold but why not have a photo shoot in the rain? This is a rain forest after all. Nicole here, is a beautiful person. Also a talented yoga instructor and massage therapist. I love to capture these pure, candid moments... especially when I remember to bring remote flashes.

Strength With Grace

This is one of my favourite images from a small shoot at North Chesterman Beach the other day. I always love working with Natalie, she loves the pursuit of a creative capture as much I do. She informs me that her form in this pose is off as a result of her right shoulder dropping. From a lighting standpoint her accidental shoulder drop made room for a beautiful highlight; which is what makes the image for me. Also, you can't ignore how effortless she makes that look... seriously.
